The Biochemistry Department was started in the year 1997 with a mission to improve research programmes. Initially a B.Sc programme in biochemistry was started with a meager number of 13 students. The M.Sc biochemistry programme was recognized in the year 2004. The first batch of M.Sc consisted of 40 students. The sanctioned student strength for UG programme is 40 and for PG programmes 40. Both the programmes attract students form neighboring states of Kerala, Pondicherry and Andhra Pradesh. The department has superb research facilities, computer network and access to a wide range of online & hard copy journals. Typically about 60% of our students go on to do research or further study mostly in the biochemistry field, while others find employment in industries, other areas, such as E-publishing, Hospitals, Schools through our placement cell. We aim to produce 100% results & university rank holders, which is fruitfully achieved every year from the onset.

She is the Head of the Department. She obtained M.Phil Degree from Bharathidasan University in 2006.She has secured University 19th rank in UG degree and 12th rank in Master degree from Bharathidasan University. Her field of research interest includes Clinical & Plant Biochemistry. She has attended one Regional level workshop. She has guided 14 M.Sc, students. She has 4 years of teaching experience. She published an article in international journal.
Mrs.B.Pragatheswari M.Sc., M.Phil.
She is a Lecturer. She obtained M.Phil Degree from Bharathidasan University in 2008.Her field of research interest includes Clinical Biochemistry & Enzyme Technology. She has guided 8 M.Sc students. She has 3 year of teaching experience.
Dr R. Sathya
She is a Lecturer. She has completed her doctorate degree in the field of Environmental studies under Bharathidasan University in April 2008. She is one of the editorial board member in the international journal of basic & applied biology. Her field of interest includes Clinical Biochemistry & Enzyme Technology. She has guided 8 M.Sc students. She has 3 year of teaching experience.
PRIYA STALIN M.Sc., M.Phil (Biotech), B.Ed
She is a Lecturer. She has completed her M.Phil Biotechnology in Periyar University in April 2008 and she has completed B.Ed in Periyar University with distinction in the year 2006. Her field of Interest includes Clinical Biochemistry & Enzyme Technology. She has guided more than 10 M.Sc students. She has 6 year of teaching experience.
R.GOKULALAKSHMI M.Sc., M.Phil.
She is a Lecturer. She obtained M.Phil Degree from PRIST University in 2010. She has secured University 19th rank in Master Degree from Bharathidasan University. Her field of research interest includes Clinical Biochemistry &Endocrinology.
S.C.SUBHA M.Sc., M.Phil.
She is the Lecturer. She obtained M.Phil Degree from Mother Theresa Women’s University in 2008. Her field of research interest includes Clinical & Plant Biochemistry. She has guided 8M.Sc, students and awarded Rs.10, 000 under the student Project scheme, TNSTCST, Chennai. She has 2-1/2years of teaching experience.
