The Ministry of Education introduced the National Service Scheme during 1969 – 1970. The choice of the timing of its introduction was remarkably auspicious as 1969 was the birth century year of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation to whom service was almost a religion.
The symbol of the National Service Scheme, as appearing on the cover is based on the “Rath” wheel of the Konark Sun Temple of Orissa. These giant wheels of the Sun Temple portrays the cycle of creation, preservation and release and signify the movement in life across timeandspace.
THEMOTTO
The motto or watch word of the National Service Scheme is “NOT ME BUT YOU”.
Brief History
N.S.S of Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan College of arts & science for women – perambalur was started in the year 1997 with one unit. Ms.N.Malathi was appointed as N.S.S programme officer. The foremost activity of NSS was adoption of Aranarai Villeges in Perambalur District and successfully served the village. In the year 2000 Bharathidasan university granted permission to establish second unit. Ms.V.Nirmala & Ms.R.Kokila were appointed as the Programme Officer for the newly established NSS unit. Ms.R.Kokila attended ten days orientation programme conducted by Madras School of Social Work,Chennai. In the year of 2004, NSS was extended to third unit and adopted Villages Echampatti,Kurumbalur, Puthattur.Further Ms.R.Kokila, S.Vijay, Deepalakshmi were appointed appointed as NSS Programme Officer for the year 2004.NSS adopted VillagesSathiramanai,Kalarampatti,Mongoon.Mrs.P.Umamaheswari,Ms.K.Karthiga,Ms.R.Aruna were appointed appointed as NSS Programme Officer for the year 2005.In this Year 2005- 2007 Received Best NSS College Award “Bharat Ratina M.G.R Award “ by Bharathidasan University. NSS adopted Village Puthuvellor, vellor,Thampiranpatti,Ms.S.Sakthi,Ms.V.Karthika.Ms.S.Malathi were appointed appointed as NSS Programme Officer for the year 2007.
